Frequently Asked Questions
Who can speak at a TEDx event?
The TED format encourages honest presenters who will inform and inspire, surprise and delight. Anyone with an original "Idea Worth Spreading" can be considered.
I'm a student, can I apply?
Can I nominate another student?
Yes! You can also tell them to visit TEDxUTK.com/students
Can I nominate someone I don't personally know?
Yes, just tell us how you heard about them and why you think they would be a good fit for our event.
Can I speak at TEDxUTK by becoming a sponsor?
No, TEDx Talks themselves are not intended as an advertising platform.
How many nominations need to
be submitted for a speaker?
It only takes one nomination. Multiple nominations will not affect the speaker selection process.
Is there a deadline for nominating a speaker?
We accept nominations year-round. It's best to make your nomination early so we have time to review the speaker for consideration for one of our upcoming events.
How long is a TEDx Talk?
Can I get a longer time slot?
Talks are less than 18 minutes long. We strictly enforce the clock. We've found that a well crafted talk can have a remarkable impact even in a short amount of time.
How much are speakers paid?
Speakers are not paid to give a talk. If you're traveling from out of state, we do cover travel and accommodation expenses.
